Medical parts Manufacturing

A parts manufacturer's proprietary thermoplastics are engineered using selective carbon or glass fiber reinforcements and thermoplastic polymers, achieving maximum strength and toughness for critical Medical & Biotechnology applications such as targeting guides, external fixation devices and halos.

Using a competitors diamond coated end mill, they were experiencing severe "peeling off" of the diamond film causing premature failure of the cutting tools.

With the competitors diamond coated tool they were able to get only ten parts per tool. With CVD Diamond Corporation's diamond coated tools they routinely get 30-40 parts per tool.

Our tools result in a savings of approximately $500 per tool used.
Aerospace Application

An Aerospace parts manufacturer uses a ball nose end mill to drill 270,000 holes in a carbon fiber aircraft part. Using bare carbide tools was judged to be too expensive to consider. CVD Diamond Corporation's mill drills 28,000 holes with a single end mill when they pull the tool out prior to failure. A competitor's diamond coated achieved 10,000 holes.
Savings in High density Fiberglass

An automotive parts manufacturer was able to get as few as 15 parts per end mill when machining high-density fiberglass. CVD Diamond's diamond coated end mill produces over 750 parts and saves over $600 per tool used.
Efficient Machining of G10

A customer machining G10-FR4 reports a 70 times advantage over bare carbide providing a savings of $900 per diamond coated end mills used!
Green Ceramics

Ceramic materials in the green state are easy to machine with a sharp tool, but keeping the tool sharp enough is a challenge. CVD Diamond's diamond coated end mills hold their edge so well that the tools last 50 times as long as a bare carbide tool and reduce tooling cost to only 1/5th as much.
Aluminum Alloys

Many aluminum alloys contain hard particles that make them very abrasive. These alloys wear out bare carbide tools at a high rate making the process expensive. CVD Diamond's diamond coated cutting tools can last as much as 10 times as long as carbide, cutting tooling cost in half and improving productivity by reducing tool changes.

Abrasive Copper Alloys

A customer machining Phosphor Bronze was using one bare carbide end mill every 8 hours of machining. After six months of using CVD diamond's diamond coated end mill for 8 hours per day, the customer put the tool in his drawer for use the next time they make the same part.
